When the most highly anticipated in-person event of the year was forced to go digital at the last minute, Zumiez shifted course to acknowledge the inconvenience and incorporate it into the event theme. They asked me to step in to give the outer space theme a nostalgic home movie spin.

The structure of the logo had to remain the same for consistency with the merchandise that had already been printed, but the static texture, masking tape, and minimal alterations to the logo itself tied in the new theme.

The event budget had already been spent, so we needed to be thoughtful but cost-effective.

For nominee announcements, we thrifted VHS tapes and added branded stickers and hand-written labels to make them feel like home movies. Along with a series of posters, these tapes decorated the office lobby, and nominees were able to seek out and take home their tapes.

Winners received potted plants in thrifted pots with only small printed labels. This cut down on waste and printing costs, and winners and non-winners alike got to enjoy the extra greenery throughout the office.

I also designed stats screens for each contender in the skateboard boxcar races that aired during the program.
